Newsgroups have been around the same time as the
Internet itself, and it was devised as a simple way for scientists to keep
abreast of developments in their chosen fields. Think of it as a an electronic
bulletin board or electronic notice board - you can go to that board and read
what other people have written up or if you want to take part you can put up a
notice yourself. There are well over 30,000 such notice boards! |
The first thing you need to do is to choose
which newsgroups you wish to become a member of. You can do this by acquiring a
list from your Internet Service Provider, or alternatively if you visit
http://groups.google.com you can carry out a search of all
archives on whatever topic you decide. By joining the newsgroup you
can:
- see what other people are are saying about
your chosen subject
- take part in ongoing exchanges with other
people on your chosen subject
- ask other people a question on your chosen
subject
